Jacobian determinant
Definition
Let be open, let , and let be a point at which all first partial derivatives of exist. The Jacobian determinant of at is the determinant of the Jacobian matrix of at . It is also written , and it is often called the Jacobian of .
Remarks
For the polar map , the Jacobian determinant is . If is of class and , then has a differentiable local inverse near , by the inverse function theorem. The absolute value is the factor in the change of variables formula for multiple integrals.
Explanations
L1 human
A linear map of the plane sends the unit square to a parallelogram, and the determinant is the signed area of that parallelogram. The Jacobian determinant does the same for a curved map, at the scale of tiny squares near one point.
What this node needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
