Fluid mechanics Compressible flow and gas dynamics Concept
Speed of sound
Summary
The speed of sound is the speed at which small pressure disturbances travel through a fluid at rest. It is fixed by how much the pressure rises when the fluid is compressed without exchange of heat, through . It sets the scale for all effects of compressibility, and the ratio of the flow speed to it is the Mach number. For an ideal gas it depends only on the temperature, .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
