Definition
Let be a field extension. A subset is a transcendence basis of if:
- is algebraically independent over ;
- is an algebraic extension of the subfield generated by and .
Remarks
Equivalently, is a maximal algebraically independent subset of . Example: in the field of rational functions , the set is a transcendence basis over , and so is . Non-example: is not a transcendence basis of , because is not algebraic over , so clause 2 fails. For an algebraic extension, the empty set is the unique transcendence basis.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
