statement corollary

A function with bounded derivative is Lipschitz

Statement

Let II be an interval, let f ⁣:I→Rf \colon I \to \mathbb{R} be continuous and differentiable at each interior point of II, and let K≥0K \ge 0. If ∣f′(x)∣≤K|f'(x)| \le K for each interior point xx of II, then ff is Lipschitz with constant KK.

Remarks

The mean value theorem gives ∣f(y)−f(x)∣=∣f′(c)∣ ∣y−x∣≤K∣y−x∣|f(y) - f(x)| = |f'(c)| \, |y - x| \le K |y - x|. For example, sin⁡\sin is Lipschitz with constant 11 on R\mathbb{R}. Mathlib states a form for convex sets as Convex.lipschitzOnWith_of_nnnorm_deriv_le.

Explanations

L1 human

If the slope of the graph never exceeds KK in size, no chord can be steeper than KK.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
