Codomain

Definition

Let f ⁣:A→Bf \colon A \to B be a function. The codomain of ff is the set BB.

Remarks

Each value f(a)f(a) is in the codomain, but not every element of the codomain needs to be a value. The set of values is the range of ff. It is a subset of the codomain. The function ff is surjective when its range is the whole codomain.

Explanations

L1 human

For f ⁣:R→Rf \colon \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R} with f(x)=x2f(x) = x^2, the codomain is R\mathbb{R}. The value −1-1 is in the codomain, but no input gives it.

What this node needs for W2
  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this

42 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
