Functions of a complex variable Definition
Inner function
Definition
Let be the open unit disc and let be a bounded holomorphic function. By Fatou's theorem, the radial limit exists for almost every . The function is an inner function if for almost every .
Remarks
An inner function satisfies on , because is the Poisson integral of .
Example: let . For one has , so and is bounded. For this real part tends to as , so and is inner. It has no zeros, so it is not a Blaschke product.
Non-example: is bounded and holomorphic, but for .
Every inner function has the form , where and is a Blaschke product. Here , and is a finite positive Borel measure on the circle that is singular to Lebesgue measure. The factor is called a singular inner function.
