Place (number field)

Summary

A place of an algebraic number field KK is a class of equivalent nontrivial absolute values on KK. The finite places correspond to the nonzero prime ideals of the ring of integers. The infinite places correspond to the real embeddings and the pairs of complex conjugate embeddings of KK. Each place gives a completion of KK, which is a local field or ℝ\R or ℂ\C. The places together are the index set of the adele ring. For K=ℚK = \Q, Ostrowski's theorem says that the places are the primes pp and one infinite place.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
