Ramification
Summary
Let be a finite extension of a number field . A prime ideal of ramifies in when its factorisation in has a repeated prime factor. The exponent of a prime factor is its ramification index. Only finitely many primes ramify, namely those dividing the relative discriminant. Over these are the primes dividing the discriminant of . Ramification is one part of the splitting of prime ideals, and the word comes from the branching of covering maps of Riemann surfaces.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
