Subderivative
Builds on IntervalConvex functionDerivative
Definition
Let be an open interval of , let be a convex function, and let . A real number is a subderivative of at if The subdifferential is the set of all subderivatives of at .
Remarks
The subdifferential is the closed interval , where and are the one-sided derivatives, which exist for a convex function on an open interval. In particular it is never empty. It is the single point exactly when has a derivative at . For a convex function on , a vector with for all is called a subgradient.
Example: on and . For one has for all , so .
Non-example: for the same and . At the condition reads , which fails.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
