Beta function
Builds on Improper integralGamma function
Definition
The beta function is the function given by the improper integral The integral converges for all real and .
Remarks
Example: . The substitution gives and , so .
Non-example of a valid argument: for and the integral is , so is outside the domain.
The beta function is symmetric, , and it satisfies , where is the gamma function. For positive integers this gives . The same integral defines for complex with positive real parts.
