Cusp form
Definition
Let be an integer and let be a modular form of weight for the modular group , with -expansion , where . Then is a cusp form if . Equivalently, as .
Remarks
For a congruence subgroup , a modular form for of weight is a cusp form if as , for every . Example: is a cusp form of weight ; the constant terms of and are both , so they cancel. Non-example: the Eisenstein series is a modular form but not a cusp form, since its constant term is . For , for and .
