Definition
Let be an even integer and let be the upper half-plane. The Eisenstein series of weight is the function given by The normalized Eisenstein series is , where is the Riemann zeta function.
Remarks
For the series converges absolutely and locally uniformly on . So is holomorphic, and it is a modular form of weight for . With , (a divisor function) and the -th Bernoulli number: Example: gives , and gives . Non-example: for odd , the terms for and cancel, so the sum is ; this is why is even. For the double series does not converge absolutely, and the function obtained by summing in a fixed order is not a modular form.
