K-theory K1 and Whitehead groups Concept
Elementary subgroup
Summary
The elementary subgroup is a subgroup of the general linear group over a ring . It is generated by the elementary matrices that add a multiple of one row to another. The union inside the stable general linear group is, by Whitehead's lemma, the commutator subgroup of . So K1 of a ring is the quotient , which measures how far invertible matrices are from products of row operations.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
