K-theory K1 and Whitehead groups Concept
K1 of a ring
Summary
The group of a ring is the abelianisation of the stable general linear group . By Whitehead's lemma it is the quotient of by the elementary subgroup . It generalises the determinant: for a commutative ring the determinant induces a split surjection , and for a field this is an isomorphism. It is the first of the algebraic K-groups above and carries the Whitehead group used in topology.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
