Group isomorphism

Definition

Let GG and HH be groups. A group isomorphism from GG to HH is a group homomorphism φ ⁣:G→H\varphi \colon G \to H that is a bijection. The groups GG and HH are isomorphic, written G≅HG \cong H, when there is an isomorphism from GG to HH.

Remarks

The inverse map of an isomorphism is again a homomorphism, thus an isomorphism. Isomorphism is an equivalence relation on groups. The exponential map is an isomorphism from (R,+)(\mathbb{R}, +) to the positive real numbers with multiplication. Isomorphic groups have the same order, and corresponding elements have the same order.

Explanations

L1 human

Two groups are isomorphic when they are the same group with different names for the elements. An isomorphism is a dictionary that translates the names and keeps all products correct. For example, the rotations of a triangle and the integers modulo 33 under addition are isomorphic.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 3 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
