statement proposition
Holomorphic functions with nonzero derivative are conformal
Statement
Let be an open set, let be holomorphic, and let . If , then is conformal at . In particular, if for each , then is conformal on .
Remarks
Write with ; then the real derivative of at is , a rotation by followed by a scaling by . The converse also holds: a map that is conformal at each point of an open set is holomorphic on with a nonzero derivative. The condition is necessary: doubles the angles between curves through . The exponential function is conformal at each point but not injective, so a conformal map need not be injective.
Explanations

Near , a complex differentiable function acts almost like . Multiplication by the complex number turns the plane and scales it. Turning and scaling keep all angles, so keeps the angles between curves through .
