Proof that the lcm of coprime integers is their product
Builds on Coprime integersLeast common multipleProduct of the gcd and the lcm
Proof
- Let and be natural numbers that are coprime. By definition, .
- By the product of the gcd and the lcm, .
- Substituting gives , where is the least common multiple.
Idea
The gcd times the lcm is always the product. When the gcd is , nothing is left to divide out, so the lcm is the product itself.
Reading path
To understand this page from the ground up, read these 26 pages in order. The foundations come first. The path takes the proofs Proof of Bézout's identity, Proof of the commutativity of addition by induction, Proof of the product of the gcd and the lcm, Proof of strong induction from ordinary induction, Proof of the well-ordering principle from strong induction, Proof of the division algorithm.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
