Reversible process

Summary

A reversible process is an idealised process that can be run backwards, so that both the system and its surroundings return to their initial states. It is quasistatic and has no dissipation, such as friction or heat flow across a finite temperature difference. Reversible processes give the bounds of thermodynamics, such as the maximal efficiency of a heat engine.
