Strictly monotone function

Definition

Let D⊆RD \subseteq \mathbb{R} and let f ⁣:D→Rf \colon D \to \mathbb{R} be a function. The function ff is strictly increasing if f(x)<f(y)f(x) < f(y) for all x,y∈Dx, y \in D with x<yx < y. It is strictly decreasing if f(x)>f(y)f(x) > f(y) for all x,y∈Dx, y \in D with x<yx < y. It is strictly monotone if it is strictly increasing or strictly decreasing.

Remarks

With ≤\le and ≥\ge in place of << and >>, we get increasing, decreasing, and monotone functions. A strictly monotone function is injective. For example, x3x^3 is strictly increasing on R\mathbb{R}, and x2x^2 is strictly increasing on [0,∞)[0, \infty). Mathlib defines strictly increasing maps as StrictMono.

Explanations

L1 human

A strictly increasing function always goes up: a larger input gives a larger output. Its graph rises from left to right, with no flat parts.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this

32 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
