statement theorem

Logarithm is the inverse of the exponential

Statement

For every real x>0x > 0, eln⁡x=xe^{\ln x} = x. For every real yy, ln⁡(ey)=y\ln(e^y) = y. The function ln⁡\ln is continuous and strictly increasing on (0,∞)(0, \infty), and its range is R\mathbb{R}.

Remarks

The two identities say that ln⁡\ln and exp⁡\exp are inverse bijections between (0,∞)(0, \infty) and R\mathbb{R}. Continuity follows from the continuity of inverse functions, since exp⁡\exp is strictly increasing and continuous. Also ln⁡x→∞\ln x \to \infty as x→∞x \to \infty, and ln⁡x→−∞\ln x \to -\infty as x→0+x \to 0^+. Mathlib states the first identity as Real.exp_log.

Explanations

L1 human

Taking ln⁡\ln undoes taking exp⁡\exp, and the other way round. The graph of ln⁡\ln is the mirror image of the graph of exe^x in the line y=xy = x.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
