Weierstrass elliptic function
Description
Let be linearly independent over , and let be the lattice they span. The Weierstrass elliptic function of is The series converges absolutely and uniformly on compact subsets of , because .
- is a meromorphic function on whose poles are exactly the points of , each a pole of order .
- is even, and for all , so is an elliptic function for .
- satisfies the differential equation , where and .
Remarks
Periodicity is checked on the derivative first: is visibly -periodic. So is a constant ; putting and using that is even gives . The differential equation follows because is elliptic without poles, hence constant, and its Laurent expansion at shows the constant is . Every elliptic function for is a rational function of and . The map identifies the torus minus one point with the affine cubic curve .
