definition

Zero of a holomorphic function

Definition

Let U⊆CU \subseteq \mathbb{C} be an open set and let f:U→Cf : U \to \mathbb{C} be holomorphic on UU. A zero of ff is a point z0∈Uz_0 \in U with f(z0)=0f(z_0) = 0.

Remarks

The zeros of sin⁡\sin are the numbers kπk\pi with k∈Zk \in \mathbb{Z}. The complex exponential has no zeros. Each zero has an order, a positive integer or ∞\infty. If ff is not the zero function on a domain, its zeros are isolated.

Explanations

L1 human

A zero of a function is a point where the function takes the value 00, as for real functions. For example, z2+1z^2 + 1 has the zeros ii and −i-i.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 12 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
