Functions of a complex variable Definition
Holomorphic map between Riemann surfaces
Builds on Riemann surfaceContinuous functionHolomorphic function
Definition
Let and be Riemann surfaces. A map is holomorphic if:
- is continuous, and
- for every chart of and every chart of , the map is holomorphic.
A holomorphic map is a biholomorphism if it is bijective; its inverse is then also holomorphic.
Remarks
Continuity makes open, so clause 2 makes sense. It suffices to check clause 2 for charts from one atlas of and one atlas of . When and are open subsets of with the identity chart, this is the usual notion of a holomorphic function.
Example: with for and . In the chart near finite points it is . Near , in the chart on both sides, it reads , which is holomorphic.
Non-example: complex conjugation on is continuous, but in the identity chart it is not holomorphic, so clause 2 fails.

- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
