Nevanlinna characteristic
Builds on Meromorphic functionPoleOrder of an entire function
Definition
Let be a meromorphic function on , not identically zero, and write for , with . For , let be the number of poles of in the disc , counted with multiplicity. For , let The Nevanlinna characteristic of is the function
Remarks
Example: for , and there are no poles, so . Non-example: the maximum modulus is no growth measure for . It is infinite whenever the circle passes through a pole . The characteristic avoids this by counting the poles in . The function is increasing and a convex function of . For an entire function and , one has , so and define the same order. A meromorphic function is rational exactly when , and a rational function of degree has . The Ahlfors–Shimizu characteristic, defined from the spherical area of the image of the disc , differs from by a bounded function.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
