Definition

Let 𝔻={z∈ℂ:∣z∣<1}\mathbb{D} = \set{z \in \C : \abs{z} < 1} be the unit disc. Let m≥0m \ge 0 be an integer. Let (an)(a_n) be a finite or infinite sequence of points of 𝔻∖{0}\mathbb{D} \setminus \set{0}, with repetitions allowed, such that ∑n(1−∣an∣)<∞.\sum_n (1 - \abs{a_n}) < \infty. The Blaschke product with zeros 00 (of order mm) and (an)(a_n) is the function B ⁣:𝔻→ℂB \colon \mathbb{D} \to \C given by B(z)=zm∏n∣an∣an an−z1−an‾z.B(z) = z^m \prod_n \frac{\abs{a_n}}{a_n} \, \frac{a_n - z}{1 - \overline{a_n} z}. It is a finite Blaschke product when the sequence (an)(a_n) is finite.

Remarks

Under the condition above, the product converges uniformly on compact subsets of 𝔻\mathbb{D}. So BB is holomorphic with ∣B∣≤1\abs{B} \le 1, and its zeros are exactly 00 and the ana_n, with multiplicity. Moreover the radial limit of BB has modulus 11 at almost every point of the circle, so BB is an inner function. The factor ∣an∣/an\abs{a_n}/a_n makes the nn-th factor positive at z=0z = 0; some authors also allow a constant factor of modulus 11.

Example: for a∈𝔻∖{0}a \in \mathbb{D} \setminus \set{0}, the single factor B(z)=∣a∣aa−z1−aˉzB(z) = \frac{\abs{a}}{a} \frac{a - z}{1 - \bar a z} is a finite Blaschke product. For ∣z∣=1\abs{z} = 1 one has ∣1−aˉz∣=∣zˉ−aˉ∣=∣a−z∣\abs{1 - \bar a z} = \abs{\bar z - \bar a} = \abs{a - z}, so ∣B(z)∣=1\abs{B(z)} = 1 on the circle.

Non-example: the points an=1−1/na_n = 1 - 1/n for n≥2n \ge 2 fail the summability condition, since ∑1/n=∞\sum 1/n = \infty. For them the partial products tend to 00 at every point of 𝔻\mathbb{D}, so no Blaschke product has these zeros. In fact no bounded holomorphic function other than 00 vanishes at all of them.
