Definition
Let a reference frame turn about a fixed origin relative to an inertial frame. Its angular velocity is a differentiable function of time . Let be its angular acceleration. Let a particle of mass have position in the rotating frame, measured from the origin. The Euler force on the particle is the fictitious force where is the cross product.
Remarks
Example: let the frame turn about the -axis with , so . For and one gets . This points against the direction in which the frame speeds up its turning.
Non-example: if is constant, then and the Euler force is zero, even though the centrifugal force is not. The Euler force is also called the azimuthal force or transverse force.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
