Definition
Identify each cardinal number of a well-orderable set with the least ordinal of that cardinality. For an infinite cardinal , let be the least cardinal greater than . The aleph numbers , for ordinals , are defined by transfinite recursion:
- , the set of natural numbers.
- .
- for each nonzero limit ordinal , the supremum of the earlier alephs.
Remarks
Example: is the set of countable ordinals, which is the least uncountable ordinal . Check: each countable ordinal is smaller than , and itself is uncountable, so it is the least cardinal above . Non-example: is an infinite ordinal but not an aleph, since it has the same cardinality as the smaller ordinal . The cardinal exists in ZF by Hartogs' theorem, without the axiom of choice. The map is a normal function, and every infinite well-orderable cardinal is for exactly one . The ordinal is also written when it is viewed as an ordinal.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
