Cyclic extension

Definition
Let be a Galois extension with Galois group . The extension is cyclic if is a cyclic group. It is cyclic of degree if moreover has order .
Remarks
Example: let be a prime, a power of , and . The extension of finite fields is cyclic of degree , generated by the Frobenius map . Non-example: is Galois with group . Every element of this group has order at most , while the group has order , so it is not cyclic. Every cyclic extension is an abelian extension.
