Proof
We apply Zorn's lemma to the partial injections from to .
- Let and be sets. A partial injection is an injective function with . We view as its set of pairs .
- Let be the set of partial injections, ordered by inclusion . This is a partial order. The empty function lies in , so is nonempty.
- Let be a chain of . If is empty, the empty function is an upper bound of .
- Let be nonempty, and let be the union of these sets of pairs.
- Let , with and for . Since is a chain, both pairs lie in one member , the larger of and .
- If , then , since is a function. If , then , since is injective.
- By step 6, is an injective function from a subset of to . So , and is an upper bound of .
- By Zorn's lemma, has a maximal element . Let be its image.
- Suppose that and . Pick and .
- Then is a function on , and it is injective, because . It lies in and strictly contains , contradicting maximality.
- So or . If , then is injective.
- If , then is a bijection. Its inverse is an injective function from to .
- So there is an injection from to or from to . By the order of cardinals, or .
Idea
Build an injection from to as far as possible. Zorn's lemma gives one that cannot be extended. It cannot be extended only if it has used up all of or all of , and each case gives an injection in one direction.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
