Reflection formula for the gamma function
Builds on Gamma functionComplex sine and cosineMeromorphic functionPole
Statement
Let be the gamma function, extended to a meromorphic function on . For every , where is the complex sine.
Remarks
For , the product equals the beta integral .
This integral is computed by the residue theorem, or for real by a substitution, and equals .
Both sides are meromorphic on , so the identity extends from the strip to all of by the identity theorem.
Another proof multiplies the Weierstrass products of and and compares with Euler's sine product.
At the formula gives , so , because .
The integers are excluded: at each one factor on the left has a pole and .
In Mathlib it is Complex.Gamma_mul_Gamma_one_sub.

For a student
The right side is never , so the formula shows that has no zeros off the integers. Since also for , the function is entire with zeros exactly at . Together with the functional equation and the duplication formula, it is one of the basic identities of the gamma function. It is used, for example, in the functional equation of the Riemann zeta function, where values of at and appear.
