Subspace topology
Definition
Let be a topological space and let . The subspace topology on is With this topology, is a subspace of .
Remarks
The set is a topology on , because intersection with commutes with unions and finite intersections. A set open in need not be open in . For example, is open in the subspace of , because . For a metric space, the subspace topology is the metric topology of the subspace metric. The subspace topology is the coarsest topology on for which the inclusion map is continuous.

A subset of a space inherits a topology: you cut each open set of the big space down to the subset. This is how the circle and the interval get their topologies from the plane and the line.
What this node needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
