Celestial mechanics
Builds on Newton's law of universal gravitationn-body problemKepler problem
Summary
Celestial mechanics is the part of mechanics that studies the motion of planets, moons, stars and spacecraft under gravity. Its basic model is Newton's law of universal gravitation applied to point masses, which leads to the n-body problem. The Kepler problem is solved exactly, and most other questions are attacked by perturbation theory, qualitative dynamics and numerical integration. The field gave rise to much of the theory of dynamical systems, including the work of Poincaré on chaos.
