Jacobi integral
Builds on Circular restricted three-body problemFirst integral
Summary
The Jacobi integral is the conserved quantity of the circular restricted three-body problem. It is minus twice the energy per unit mass of the small body, measured in the frame that rotates with the two large bodies. It is a first integral, and by a result of Poincaré the problem has no other independent analytic one. It divides space into regions that the small body can reach and regions it can never enter. It was found by Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi in 1836.
